Driver Experience
Ever wanted to drive a locomotive?
Now's your chance!
FHR Driving Experience
One of the staple attractions at many of our events is the Driver Experience,
which is a supervised activity where members of the public are given the chance to drive one of our diesel locomotives.

The locomotive that you will be taking control of will be North British Locomotive Company (NBL) No.400 "River Eden". This locomotive spent a number of years working at RAF Leuchars in NE Fife, where it was used to haul trains of aviation fuel and general freight from the main line into and out of the RAF Base.

This once in a lifetime opportunity is available at most of our open days, simply go to the ticket office and buy a special ticket, which costs only £5 (child) or £10 (adult). Non-driving footplate rides are also available at £5 per person.
You will be issued with a hi-vis vest to wear, which must be worn for your personal safety those around you. You will then be directed by one of our volunteers to the locomotive and the fun can begin!

It is very important that you follow any rules regarding what you can and cannot do whilst taking part in the driving experience. The loco is dual controlled so you are in safe hands!
